Statesville After Dark Book Launch with Steve Hill
Meet local historian Steve Hill, hear the stories and music behind his new book, and start the Halloween season early at the Statesville Historical Collection.
Join local historian and storyteller Steve Hill for the official launch of Statesville After Dark: The Worst of the “Best Town in North Carolina” on Friday, October 23, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Statesville Historical Collection.
Guests can purchase the book, have their copies signed and hear colorful stories about the people, places and events featured in its pages. The evening will also include live performances by musicians whose work appears in the book’s collection of 43 original songs.
Drawing from years of research for his popular nighttime walking history tours, Steve blends documented history, oral traditions, folklore and humor to explore the crimes, scandals, tragedies, ghosts and unforgettable characters found beneath the surface of Statesville’s past.
Proceeds from Statesville After Dark will benefit Preservation Statesville, the nonprofit organization that operates and supports the Statesville Historical Collection.
