From Safety Lessons to Fire Truck Showers: Day 5 at SPD Camp

The final day of SPD Summer Camp was a perfect mix of learning, laughter, and celebration.

We began with a visit from the Iredell County Health Department, where campers learned about medication safety, booster seat requirements, and how to stay safe on bikes and in cars. These important lessons help empower our youth to make safe choices every day.

Then it was off to Harris Park for one last round of fun! Campers played basketball and kickball before gathering for a good old-fashioned cookout. But the highlight of the day? A full-on drenching courtesy of the Statesville Fire Department!  The crew hooked up to a hydrant and used the ladder truck to send a powerful spray of water raining down – and the kids couldn’t have been happier. It was the ultimate summer send-off!

We also want to give a big thank you to Christian Outreach of the Piedmont for being such gracious hosts all week. Their support helped make this camp a success.

To our campers, families, community partners, and SPD team – thank you for an incredible week. We’re already looking forward to next summer!
