Billy arrived at Rescue Ranch in 2023 with his brother, Joe. Upon arrival, it was immediately apparent that Billy had a uniqueness about him regarding the way he walks.

Their previous owner explained to us that Billy and Joe were a surprise gift to their family. Hence, the family was not equipped and did not have proper fencing or shelter prepared for them. Consequently, they spent an extended period of time living in a garage. We are unsure as to whether Billy’s stride is a result of poor genetics or improper housing.

In any case, we have monitored Billy’s health and have done testing to rule out any disease or infection that might be causing the distress. Ultimately, the testing did confirm that Billy has osteoarthritis. While there is no treatment of osteoarthritis in goats, it can be managed with supportive care and pain management.

Billy is a little spit fire and a favorite among staff, volunteers and guests alike and we will continue to give him the best care so that he can have the quality of life he deserves!
