Description

In recognition of National Veterans and Military Families Month, Fort Dobbs State Historic Site will host its annual Military Timeline event on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Historic interpreters will portray soldiers and civilians representing different eras of North Carolina’s military service, from the 1585 Roanoke Colony through the Vietnam War. Fort Dobbs is administered by the Division of State Historic Sites within the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR).

Visitors are invited to interact with living history displays and watch historic weapons firing demonstrations throughout the day. At 2 p.m., Dr. Alexander Burns, assistant professor of history at Franciscan University of Steubenville (Ohio) will present a lecture titled “Firm Battalions and American Fire: The Continental Army on the Battlefield.” In commemoration of 250 years of American independence, this year’s program will also feature a special emphasis on the Revolutionary War.  Admission is $8 for adults; $7 for military and seniors (65+); and $2 for youth ages 17 and under.
